Italy has changed much since 1887 when the Daughters of Divine Zeal were founded in Messina. There has been considerable development in its economy and technology and now it is among the richest nations. Still, many of the poverties of Fr Annibale's time, especially moral poverties, remain and in some cases they have become more acute.
A country of ancient Christian tradition, Italy needs a new evangelisation and new "workers" for the Gospel. So the "Rogate" is very much alive and topical.
As a century ago so today the FDZ continue to work among the poorest in their Family Homes for Youngsters, in schools, and in welcoming young mothers in difficulty. They dedicate themselves to parish and vocation pastoral care, to religious instruction and to the press apostolate keeping in continual touch with benefactors, open always to the new needs of the harvest.
We have 30 houses at present, but the gift of the Rogate opens up vast horizons. Over and above our own poor efforts there is our prayer. With this we are in the heart of the Church side by side with every person.
